History

In 1882, two years before the Virginia Assembly legally incorporated South Boston, Virginia,   the events that would produce the insurance agency now entitled Fry, Jordan and Wilson were set into motion.

It was in this year that Captain Rufus Henry Owen began insuring the farm and public properties of Halifax County.   In 1885, John D. Fry bought Captain Owen’s business thus Fry and Company was formed.  After a brief partnership with John Richard Edmunds at the turn of the century, another partnership was formed with Fry, R.E. Jordan and Tom Easley.  W. Owen Wilson joined the partnership in 1904 and the name was changed to Fry, Jordan & Wilson.  On December 16, 1920 the partnership became a corporation.

In January 2001, NASCAR driver Ward Burton and his father, John E. Burton, Jr. purchased the agency.

In 1936, F.W. Hubbard opened Hubbard Insurance in Farmville, Virginia.  In 1966, Richard Lash became involved in ownership of the agency establishing Hubbard-Lash.  In 2001, Burton & Hamlet was formed and in 2005 acquired Hubbard-Lash.

In 1976, Hill & Associates was started in Buckingham County, Virginia.  In 2003, the company was renamed Manakin Insurance Center in honor of it’s location in Goochland County, Virginia.

In 2006, the partnership began to form Hill, Hamlet and Burton Insurance.  After a relationship spanning four decades, Hill and Burton combined forces to create one of the largest volume insurance agencies in Virginia,  with offices located throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

In 2010, ownership of HH&B was consolidated into one entity with Manakin Insurance Center as the sole ownership.  Margaret Hill has assumed the role of Managing Member with Elizabeth Hill and Beth Carlisle as members of the limited liability corporation.  Nick Mastry continues his role as Vice- President in charge of  commercial sales.  More expansion was seen in the Mid-Atlantic area in 2011 as HH&B helped to develop new offices in central Virginia and North Carolina.   HH&B is a fast growing organization poised to meet the future while still maintaining true to our tradition of personalized customer service for over 129 years.

In 2016 Carl Adams purchased HH&B from Margaret Hill the Managing Member and members Elizabeth Hill and Beth Carlisle. Carl has been an agent and District Sales Coordinator with AFLAC for over 28 years. Originally from Florida, Carl has relocated to Richmond, VA to be an active Managing Member of HH&B.
